Trio Named to Academic All-MWC

Three BYU players were selected to the Mountain West Conference 2002 Academic All-Conference team for baseball today.

Senior pitcher Ryan Adams had a 3.16 grade point average in history teaching, junior relief pitcher Tyler Dabo had a 3.19 GPA in an undeclared major, and sophomore first baseman Dave Jensen had 3.31 GPA in international studies.

Jensen, who signed as a third-round draft with the Kansas City Royals, was one of three MWC student athletes earned additional academic honors last season as members of the Verizon Academic All District Team. Air Force's Adam Howes and Josh Phifer were named to the District VII team, while Jensen earned District VIII honors. Phifer went on to capture second-team Academic All-America accolades and Howes was a third-team Academic All-America selection.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor to the team.

Twenty-five student-athletes earned MWC academic honors in 2002, including nine repeat selections from the 2001 squad. New Mexico had a league-high seven members on this year's MWC All-Academic team, followed by Air Force and Utah with six each, and BYU and San Diego State with three each.
