Fernley Selected Third Week in a Row

Colorado Springs, Colo.--BYU senior right-handed pitcher Nate Fernley and New Mexico junior outfielder Donny Sevieri are the Mountain West Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.

Fernley, from Long Beach, Calif. (Long Beach CC), became the first pitcher to claim the MWC weekly honor in three consecutive weeks. In the Cougars'8-2 win over nationally ranked Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 16, Fernley struck out six Titans in nine innings while surrendering seven hits and walking just one. He did not allow a hit over the final four innings. It was his third complete outing of the season in five starts. Fernley retired CSF

in order in the second, fourth, seventh and eighth innings. Fernley is 5-0 on the season with a 1.71 Earned Run Average.

Sevieri, from Albuquerque, N.M. (Eldorado HS), went 11-for-23 (.478) with five RBI, seven runs scored, two doubles, and two home runs in five games this past week. He led New Mexico to victories over Southern Utah, Texas Tech and Kansas State, the later coming in the Applebee's Baseball Fiesta in

Albuquerque. Sevieri went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in UNM's 12-11 win over the Red Raiders on Feb. 13. He went 6-for-13 with three RBI, three runs scored, two doubles and a home run in three games in the Fiesta. Sevieri is currently in the midst of a nine-game hitting

streak in which he has gone 17-for-37 (.459). This is the first player of the week honor for Sevieri this season and the third of his career.
