Fernley is National Pitcher of the Week

TUCSON -- Collegiate Baseball magazine has selected BYU's Nate Fernley from Long Beach, Calif., as its national pitcher of the week and Cal. St. Los Angeles' Jay Caligiuri, 3B, as its national player of the week.

Fernley logged 15 strikeouts in seven innings against the University of San Francisco. It was the third-best mark in Cougar history. But he wasn't done.

Later in the week he threw a three-hit shutout to lead BYU to a 4-0 win over California as he threw a nine-inning complete game. He fanned 10 batters in the game. On the season, he is 4-0 and averaging 13.4 strikeouts a contest.
