Fernley Named MWC Pitcher of the Week
Colorado Springs, Colo. - Senior right-handed pitcher Nate Fernley and Air Force senior outfielder Gerremy Goldsberry are the Mountain West
Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.
Fernley pitched his second collegiate complete game en route to the Cougars' 4-1 victory at Fresno State in the series opener, while Goldsberry helped lead the Falcons to a three-game sweep of Iowa State.
Fernley, from Long Beach, Calif. (Long Beach CC), threw the second complete game of his BYU career in the 4-1 victory at Fresno State on Thursday. He faced 33 batters over nine innings, scattering six hits, allowing one earned run, while striking out 10 and walking just one. Fernley is now 3-0 in three appearances with a 2.25 ERA. This is the second player of the week honor for Fernley of his career. BYU is 4-2 on the season.
Goldsberry, from Omaha, Neb. (Millard North HS), went 7-for-11 (.636) with nine RBI, five runs scored, three home runs and struck out just once in
three games this past week. He helped Air Force to a perfect 5-0 mark on the season after sweeping a three-game set vs. Iowa State over the weekend.
Goldsberry's two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning of the second game lifted the Falcons to a 6-4 victory. His two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning of the series finale marked his third consecutive home run in three at-bats. This is the second player of the week honor for Goldsberry of his career.
