Opdahl Wins Split Doubleheader vs. Southern Colorado

PUEBLO -- Pitcher Jordan Opdahl threw five innings for BYU Monday against the University of Southern Colorado, winning the opener 4-2, while the Cougars lost the nightcap, 2-1.

Opdahl picked up his first victory of the and surrendered one run off four hits. Teammate Rusty Gray picked up his first save of the year when he struck out two Thunderbirds in the seventh.

The Cougars, now 6-8, got doubles from DJ Jackson and Michael Davies and a solo homer from Ty Haguewood in the opener.

In the nightcap, BYU also got a pair of doubles from Tyler Perry and Seth King, with King's RBI coming in the fifth inning for the lone Cougar run. USC's Jeff Bloomer went the seven-inning distance, striking out eight Cougars and giving up only three hits. Noorda went the distance for BYU in game two, giving up only five hits and two runs.

USC, now 5-5, hosts BYU in a single game at noon on Tuesday.
