Jacinto Is MWC Pitcher of Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--BYU junior righthander Paul Jacinto and New Mexico senior infielder Dusty Young are the Mountain West Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. This is the second weekly honor for Young and the first for Jacinto.
Jacinto, from Encinitas, Calif. (LaCosta Canyon HS), was victorious in his only appearance on the week, as the Cougars downed UNLV, 3-1 on Friday. He took a perfect game into the fifth inning before walking a batter. For the game, Jacinto struck out seven and walked three, while giving up one hit and an earned run. With his victory, he moved his record to 2-4 on the season.
Young, from Albuquerque, N.M. (Manzano HS), went 7-for-13 from the plate last week, as the Lobos won two of three at Utah. In game one, he was 3-for-6 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in the Lobos 12-2 win. Young went 1-for-3 and scored UNM's only run as the Utes took game two, 6-1. In the series finale, he went 3-for-4 with an RBI triple, two RBI singles and scored a run of his own in the Lobos 11-6 victory. Young was also flawless from the field on the weekend from the shortstop position. For the week, he hit .538, drove in five runs and scored four runs. Young currently is riding a 26-game hitting streak, which is the third-highest in Lobo history.
