Chambers Is MWC Player of Week

COLORADO SPRINGS -- BYU sophomore right fielder Ryan Chambers and UNLV freshman righthander Matt Luca are the Mountain West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Chambers is a first-time award winner, while Luca earned his second award of the season.

Chambers, from Yucaipa, Calif. (Yucaipa HS), led the Cougars to a series sweep last week over Utah after hitting .600 with two home runs and eight RBI. In game one vs. the Utes, Chambers was 3-for-3 from the plate with a home run and three RBI. In game two, he was 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and four runs scored. He rounded out the series with a 1-for-4 performance from the plate with two RBI.

Luca, from Galveston, Texas (Ball HS), earned a victory over San Diego State last week after holding the Aztecs scoreless in five innings pitched. He allowed four hits, while striking out five as he improved to 4-0 on the season.
