Arellano named Ray Guy Award Player of the Week

PROVO, Utah – BYU punter Scott Arellano was named the Ray Guy Award Player of the Week for his performance against Middle Tennessee.

Arellano, from Santa Ynez, California, had seven punts for 324 yards, averaging 46.3 yards per punt in the Cougars' 27-7 victory against the Blue Raiders Saturday. Five of his punts were marked inside the 20-yard line with no touchbacks. Arellano's 81-yard punt in the fourth quarter broke a BYU record for longest punt, set in 1983 by former NFL punter Lee Johnson. It was also the longest punt nationally this season.

The Ray Guy Award is given to the collegiate punter of the year. The Augusta Sports Council created the award in 2000 to honor Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Ray Guy. The winner is determined by a national voting body of sports writers, college coaches, sports information directors and past Ray Guy winners.

Arellano was also named FBS Independent Special Teams Player of the Week and CFPA Honorable Mention Punter of the Week.
