Pochman Earns Second Straight Player of the Week Honor

PROVO -- Senior Owen Pochman, a product of Mercer Island, Wash., set a new BYU kicking record for the second straight week after connecting on four field goals (45, 38, 35 and 22) in the first half vs. Utah. He finished the game with 13 points in the Cougars 34-27 victory over the Utes. Pochman finished his career as BYU's all-time scoring leader with 332 points over four seasons.

Pochman's 22-yard field goal with 4:42 left in the second quarter marked his fourth field goal of the first half, setting a BYU record for most field goals in a half. Pochman finished the season connecting on 19-of-24 field-goal attempts and a perfect 29-of-29 PATs. Pochman scored 14 points on the night, extending his BYU scoring record to 333 career points.

POCHMAN NOTES:

Pochman has produced a team-leading 86 points on the season, including a season-high 14 points against Utah.

Pochman has produced a school record 333 points over his career. The left-footed senior has connec ed on 29-of-29 extra-point attempts and split the uprights on 19-of-24 (.792) field goals during the 2000 campaign.

On the season, Pochman is a perfect six-for-six from 20-28 yards, four-for-four from 30-39 yards, seven-for-10 from 40-49 yards and two-for-four from 50-99 yards.

Pochman has connected on 58 straight extra-point attempts, dating back to Sept. 25, 1999. After having a PAT blocked against Virginia with 7:17 remaining in the second quarter, Pochman has not missed a single extra-point attempt.

The Mercer Island, Wash., native has recorded over 30 touchbacks on the season, recording over .600 touchback percentage.

Pochman helped BYU overcome a 21-0 halftime deficit to upset Virginia in its home-opener back on Sept. 2. He split the uprights on a 26-yard effort to give BYU a 38-35 overtime victory.

Against San Diego State, Pochman nailed a career-long 50-yard field goal to give BYU a 15-13 lead with :46 remaining.

In the Cougars' home finale, Pochman was perfect on PATs, going four-for-four on the night. However, the most impressive performance came with :01 left in the first half when Pochman nailed a 56-yarder -- the longest field goal in BYU history.

In the season finale (at Utah), Pochman was deadly accurate, nailing four straight field goals in the first half to set a BYU record for most field goals in a half. Pochman recorded 13 first-half points, leading BYU to a 19-10 halftime lead and eventually, a 34-27 come-from-behind victory.
