Doman, Denney Earn MWC Player-of-the-Week Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Brandon Doman and Ryan Denney (BYU) were named Mountain West Conference Players of the Week following the Cougars' impressive 44-16 win over Pac-10 foe California on Saturday. Doman was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Denney was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Both players receive Player-of-the-Week accolades for the first time in their careers.

MWC Offensive Player of the Week

Brandon Doman, BYU, QB, Senior

In his fifth career start, senior quarterback Brandon Doman accounted for six touchdowns in BYU's 44-16 win at Cal. Doman threw for three touchdowns and rushed for three scores. He finished the afternoon with 272 yards passing, completing 16-of-24 attempts, 29 yards rushing and 17 yards receiving, totaling 317. Doman is the first BYU quarterback since Robbie Bosco in 1984 to win his first five starts and first since Steve Sarkisian in 1996 to be responsible for six TDs in a game. The Cougars lead the country in scoring offense, averaging 55.3 points per game, and are second in total offense, with an average of 606.7 yards per contest.

MWC Defensive Player of the Week

Ryan Denney, BYU, DE, Senior

Senior defensive end Ryan Denney registered two of BYU's five sacks in the Cougars win over Cal. Denney also recorded seven tackles, including six solo stops, three tackles for loss, one pass deflection and forced a fumble which led to a BYU touchdown.

The 24th-ranked Cougars will travel to No. 17 Mississippi State on Saturday. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m. (CDT).
