Daniel Coates: At the Improv

In our on-going series of Q&A's with current BYU football players, today we introduce you to tight end Daniel Coates.

Coates is a 6-3, 240-pound tight end from Layton, Utah. After redshirting last season, he plans to be a significant part of the Cougars offense this season.

Coats was named Utah State Player of the Year as a senior at Northridge High School, and received Deseret News All-State honors. He led Northridge to back-to-back 5-A state championships as a junior and senior.

Q. What would your dream vacation be?

A. Some tropical island where I could just chill on the beach. The beach would have to be secluded because I don't want a bunch of people stepping on me.

Q. If you only had one day to live, what would you do?

A. I would do all of the extreme sports; I would go sky-diving and bunjee jumping and I would even swim with sharks.

Q. Who has been the most influential person in your success as an athlete?

A. My high school coach, Fred Fernandes.

Q. What is your favorite television show?

A. Dharma and Greg

Q. Other than athletics, what is a talent you have?

A. I do improv. In high school I started doing it just for fun.

Q. What is the funnest thing to do in Provo?

A. Actually, after getting up at 5 a.m. all week, I think the funnest thing to do in Provo right now is sleep.

Q. What would you do with $1 million dollars?

A. I would blow all of the money on stupid things I don't need. I would put a lot of television sets and DVD players in my car.

Q.What is the most difficult thing about being a student-athlete?

A. Finding the time to study. I only find a little bit of time for it.

Q. What is something that girls at BYU should know about you?

A. My wife has a mean left hook!

Q. What is your favorite hobby?

A. Cooking

Q. If you could only keep one possession, what would it be?

A. My pillow. I've got to be able to sleep.

Q. What is something about you your teammates don't know?

A. I am afraid of heights.
