FORT WORTH -- The nation’s longest football winning streak came to an end Thursday as No. 8 BYU fell to No. 24 TCU, 32-7, at Amon Carter Stadium. The Cougars had won 16-straight games dating back to Sept. 22, 2007.

Among the limited highlights on the night for BYU was wide receiver Austin Collie who totaled more than 100 receiving yards for the fifth straight game to tie a Mountain West Conference record. Collie caught 6 passes for 116 yards. Junior defensive lineman Jan Jorgensen also tied the MWC career sack record at 20.5 with a sack of TCU’s Jeremy Kerley in the second quarter.

The majority of the night belonged to TCU. On BYU’s opening possession, the Horned Frogs forced a Max Hall fumble at the 40-yard line and took advantage of the short field. Two plays later, TCU quarterback Andy Dalton connected with wide receiver Jimmy Young for a 25-yard score. The Horned Frogs scored again at the 6:08 mark of the first quarter on a seven-play, 72-yard drive that was capped by a 16-yard scamper on a direct snap to wide receiver Jeremy Kerley.

Down 14-0 to start the second quarter, it looked like BYU’s Jorgensen had intercepted a Dalton pass on third-and-goal at the Cougar 3-yard line, but a replay review determined the ball hit the ground. TCU’s Ross Evans added a 21-yard field goal on the next play to give TCU a 17-0 lead. After two stalled BYU possessions, TCU finished off the first-half scoring with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Dalton to Walter Bryant. A missed PAT made it 23-0 at the break.

The scoreless half was BYU’s first since trailing Boston College 10-0 at home on Sept. 3, 2005.

TCU opened the second half with a 31-yard field goal on its first posession. BYU responded with a 15-play, 72-yard drive capped off by a Hall scamper on fourth and goal from the 2-yard line to make the score 26-7. Unfortunately for the Cougars, TCU answered with a 76-yard drive for a touchdown and the final scoring of the game, 32-7.

Hall finished the night 22-42 for 274 yards, but was sacked six times. Tight end Dennis Pitta, a John Mackey Award candidate, caught eight passes for 84 yards. Running back Harvey Unga carried the ball 14 times for 54 yards and caught four passes for 40 more.

BYU is now 6-1 (2-1 in MWC) on the season and has won 27 of its last 30 games. The loss to TCU snaps a MWC record 18-straight league victories. BYU had also won its last 11 MWC road games.

The Cougars will take on UNLV on Saturday, Oct. 25 at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo. The game is set for a noon kickoff and will be broadcast live on The Mtn.
