Van Noy named to Midseason All-American Second Team
PROVO, Utah - Junior outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy was named to the Phil Steele’s Midseason All-American Second Team Defense Wednesday.
Van Noy, a native of Reno, Nevada, is also an honoree on the Nagurski Trophy, Lombardi Award and Bednarik Award Watch Lists. The junior playmaker has helped BYU rank No. 5 in the nation in total defense. With Van Noy at the helm, the Cougars are No. 1 in rushing defense, No. 1 in red zone conversions and No. 3 in scoring defense.
Personally, Van Noy is ranked tied for third, fifth and six in fumbles forced (3), sacks (6.5) and tackles for loss (10.5), respectively. In addition to his national rankings, Van Noy has rallied for 24 total tackles, seven quarterback hurries and five pass breakups.
Van Noy was named National Linebacker of Week 3 for his performance against Utah that included 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one pass breakup and eight total tackles.
Joining Arthur Brown of Kansas State, Van Noy is one of only two linebackers west of the Mississippi River recognized on the First and Second Team Defense.
Van Noy and the Cougars host No. 10 Oregon State during Homecoming weekend Saturday, Oct. 13, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. MDT. The game will be broadcast live from LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo on ABC.
