No. 4 BYU looks to clinch WCC title on senior night
PROVO, Utah – No. 4 BYU can clinch at least a share of the West Coast Conference title on Saturday against Gonzaga at South Field, as it honors its seniors in this year's last regular-season game.
BYU Storylines
The Cougars (15-2-1, 6-1-1 WCC) are tied with Pepperdine, who also plays its final game on Saturday, in the conference standings. Depending on what the Waves do against Pacific earlier that day, BYU will be playing for either a shared or outright league title.
At stake is the Cougars' fifth-straight WCC championship.
Senior Ashley Hatch is third in the nation with 17 goals this season. Senior Michele Vasconcelos is the only player in the nation to have 12 goals and 12 assists.
In addition to Hatch and Vasconcelos, the BYU seniors who will be honored are Miranda Bailey Topham, Rachel Boaz, Paige Hunt Barker and Elena Medeiros.
Gonzaga Storylines
The Bulldogs (6-9-2, 2-6-0 WCC) lost back-to-back games against Santa Clara and San Francisco last week after two-straight wins. Gonzaga has gone 1-5-1 away from Spokane.
Senior forward Karley Baggerly leads the Bulldogs in points with six goals and three assists. In her Gonzaga career, she has 24 goals and 12 assists. Aliyah Miller, from Bountiful, Utah, has four goals and two assists.
