NSCAA selects Vasconcelos for Scholar All-America
PROVO, Utah – Senior forward Michele Vasconcelos was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-America Second Team on Thursday.
The NSCAA states that the Scholar All-America designation is for the best collegiate soccer players on the field and in the classroom. Players were nominated based on high grade-point averages and on-field contributions to team success.
Vasconcelos is an exercise science major who was named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team in November. On the field, she had 16 goals and 13 assists, which is statistically one of the best seasons all-time for any BYU player.
Other awards for Vasconcelos this season include Hero Sports All-America, Hero Sports Fan Choice Player of the Year, WCC Player of the Week and WCC Player of the Year.
The last player to be named an NSCAA Scholar All-American was Annie Amos in 2014. In program history, 11 Cougars have received the honor.
Additionally, Elena Medeiros was named to the All-West Scholar Second Team. Medeiros, a senior midfielder, is a business management major with a marketing emphasis. She had six goals and six assists this season, and was named to College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District First Team in October and the All-WCC First Team in November.
