Steiner and Tucker shine in Blue and White game
PROVO, Utah – Brittain Steiner and Cameron Tucker were both involved in multiple goals as No. 8 BYU women's soccer kicked off its season with the annual Blue and White scrimmage on Saturday night at South Field.
"So many girls played well," BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "In the second half, Cameron (Tucker) showed what she is capable of doing. We have so many options and we just played it mixed and didn't make too many changes."
Steiner and Tucker each had a goal and an assist to lead White to a 3-1 win. Some players switched sides at halftime and the Cougars showed off their roster for the new season.
In the 10th minute, freshman Makaylie Moore got White on the board with a header from Steiner's cross. The shot was placed near post and got past the outstretched arms of Blue goalkeeper Sabrina Macias.
Steiner scored early in the second half off an assist from Tucker. Tucker's attack drew out the keeper, and she dished to Steiner who scored on a wide-open net.
Tucker scored in the 61st minute on an unassisted effort from the top of the 18-yard box. She controlled the ball, spun and fired a shot to the top left corner to put White up 3-0.
Nadia Gomes' effort in the 76th minute gave Blue its only goal. She was assisted on a through ball from Brynlee Welch and hammered home the shot for the final score of 3-1.
Hannah Clark and Macias each played 51 minutes in goal, and were replaced by Josie Manwill and Savanna Empey, respectively.
