Cougars travel to Arkansas for another SEC road test
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — BYU women's soccer will travel to meet Arkansas for the programs' first ever matchup in its home opener on Monday, Aug. 30.
Saturday’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT. The game will be carried live on the BYU Sports Network — BYU Radio 107.9 FM/BYU Cougars App. The matchup will also be available for streaming on SEC Network+ and ESPN+.
IN THE RANKINGS. BYU is ranked No. 24 in the NCAA DI women's soccer poll. Additionally, BYU is ranked No. 12 in the Top Drawer Soccer college soccer national ranking.
LAST TIME ON THE FIELD. BYU defeated No. 25 USC 2-1 at South Field Thursday evening in front of 5,347 roaring fans. Sophomore transfer Brecken Mozingo opened the match with a goal in the 13th minute, off of a long pass from sophomore Olivia Wade. In the 40th minute, Mozingo floated a perfect pass from a free kick in the corner enabling Bella Folino to connect on a header, taking the lead to 2-0 before the half. USC midfielder Croix Bethune scored the Trojans' only goal of the night, off a penalty kick, after a BYU handball was called in the box. After quelling a few late Trojan attacks, the Cougars were able to hold on for the 2-1 win.

THE RAZORBACKS. Arkansas is 0-2-0 after falling to two top-ten ranked teams on the road: Duke and North Carolina. Duke was No. 6 when the Razorbacks faced them in the season opener. North Carolina was No. 3. Arkansas was No. 13. On Aug. 19, the Razorbacks fell to Duke 3-1. Arkansas struck first, but fell flat after an outside-of-the box goal and two successful penalty kicks from the Blue Devils.On Aug. 27, the Razorbacks fell to No. 3 North Carolina in extra time 1-0. The Tar Heels scored in the sixth minute of the first overtime period. The Razorbacks finished the 2020-21 season with a 12-4 record, and reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
COUGARS VS. RAZORBACKS. The Cougars and Razorbacks will meet each other for the first time in program history on Monday. Even though the teams haven't competed against each other yet, the closest they’ve come is when BYU hosted the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament in 2019. Arkansas competed against North Carolina State at South Field in the Second Round and lost 2-1.
