Willardson-Viernes Picks Up MWC Player Of The Week Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 15, 2001) Junior midfielder/forward Jeni Willardson-Viernes has been named this week's Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week after helping the Cougars open league play with two road victories at UNLV and San Diego State. This is Willardson-Viernes' first career weekly honor and the first for BYU this season.

Willardson-Viernes, from Murray, Utah and Murray High School, netted two goals and an assist off 10 shots this past week to help BYU extend its regular season conference win streak to 10 matches, dating back to 1999. In Thursday's 3-1 victory at UNLV, she scored the third goal of the match to help secure the Cougars win. Saturday, Willardson-Viernes recorded a goal in the 16th minute to knot the match with San Diego State at 1-1. She also assisted the goal by Kim Devine at the 48:22 mark to give BYU a 2-1 lead. The Cougars eventually won the match, 3-2.

Willardson-Viernes is tied for first place in scoring in conference games only for BYU with five points from two goals and one assist. Teammate and All-American Aleisha Cramer has the same stats.
