Freshman defender Claire Thomas was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week after helping the Cougars to their third shutout in three games as BYU defeated No. 7 Tennessee 1-0 on Friday.
Thomas, who was also named the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week, was instrumental in the Cougars' win as she managed to shut down the top three players from Tennessee: Lyndsey Patterson, the team's leading scorer; Rhian Wilkinson, a Canadian National Team member; and Keeley Dowling, a preseason All-American and Hermann Trophy candidate.
Thanks in large part to Thomas' stingy defense, the three stars from Tennessee were held to a total of five shots and one shot on goal in the game.
