Fisher finishes fifth at Final Qualifier

SEATTLE, Wash. – Senior pole vaulter Rachel Fisher finished fifth at the UW Final Qualifier on Friday in her last shot to qualify for nationals. She finished with a mark of 3.94 meters.

In order to qualify, Fisher and the other athletes needed to reach 4.24m in the height progression, but none of the athletes were able to clear it. San Diego State's Kristen Brown finished first with a mark of 4.09m.

“I thought Rachel did well tonight," pole vault coach Elbert Pratt said. "She has had to overcome some obstacles this year, and in order to reach new heights, I think it's a matter of improving her swing and getting back a little more vertical. She's very close and is in a good place for the outdoor season."

Fisher's personal best vault is 4.26m, which she cleared at the 2011 UW Final Qualifier. She also broke the BYU all-time pole vault record with the height but currently ranks second.

The final event of the 2013 indoor season is the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will take place March 8-9 in Fayetteville, Ark. Junior 800-meter runner Kelsey Brown is the sole member of the women's track team to attend the meet.
