Johnson Named MWC Women's Athlete of Week

PROVO, Utah (Apr. 10, 2002) BYU thrower Lindsay Johnson was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week following an NCAA-qualifying performance in the javelin at the BYU Cougar Invitational.

Competing at home for the first time in her collegiate career, Johnson had a lifetime-best mark of 172-03.00 (52.50m) to win the javelin at the Cougar Invitational on Saturday. The automatic qualifying mark is a new conference record by one meter and currently stands as the third-best mark in the nation this season.

A freshman from The Dalles, Ore., Johnson is the first Cougar to be named athlete of the week in track during the outdoor season. This is the first time Johnson has been honored as conference athlete of the week in her BYU career.
