Bret Lopez, BYU's senior designated hitter, is among 16 baseball players in the running for the national fan choice award.
Fans can can cast a daily vote for a favorite player through this website. All registered Facebook users can cast a vote. One vote per user per day. The top vote-getter will be named the 2014 Fan’s Choice Award winner. The Fan’s Choice Award champion will be honored at the 2014 TD Ameritrade Home Run Derby, airing Thursday, July 3 on ESPN at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Round 1 voting will take place from 12:00 pm CT on May 27 until 11:59 am CT on June 9. The top 10 vote-getters will advance to Round 2.
Round 2 voting will take place from 12:00 pm CT on June 9 until 11:59 am CT on June 16. The top 4 vote-getters will advance to Round 3.
Round 3 voting will take place from 12:00 pm CT on June 16 until 11:59 am CT on June 23.
The TD Ameritrade Fan's Choice Award represents values shared by the college baseball players eligible for this honor.
The finalists for this award inspire their team, peers, and communities through their leadership, commitment, and pursuit of excellence on and off the field.
Lopez was the designated hitter for 36 of BYU's games this season and started two games at first base. He appeared in 11 other games as a pinch hitter, ending the year batting .325 with nine doubles, two triples and two home runs. He hit two game-winning RBI, including a two-run homer in a 6-4 victory at Utah Valley.
Lopez, an Eagle Scout, served as co-chair of the Cougar Council representing all BYU student-athletes and was nominated to the CoSida Academic All-District VIII and the Academic All-West Coast Conference teams with a 3.32 GPA with the goal to become a physical therapist. He also served his two-year mission to Puerto Rico for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
