Mangum honored by CFPA and Manning Award

PROVO, Utah – BYU freshman quarterback Tanner Mangum was honored by College Football Performace Awards and the Manning Award Monday following his performance in a comeback victory over East Carolina last Saturday.

The CFPA announced Mangum on its 2015 Midseason Watch List for the CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy. The list includes twenty-three quarterbacks and nine running backs from the FBS. All FBS players are eligible for the award. The 2015 CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy is a 22-inch K-9 optic crystal tower with eight-inch crystal football on top. The award winner will be announced January 13, 2016.

Mangum was also selected as one of eight "Stars of the Week" by the Manning Award. Sponsored and coordinated by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the Manning Award will recognize its 12th winner following the 2015 season. Each week, the Bowl selects eight "Stars of the Week" and fans can vote Mangum for "Quarterback of the Week" on the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page. The "Quarterback of the Week" will be announced Thursday at 11 a.m. CT.

Out of Eagle, Idaho, Mangum threw 24 of 33 for 332 yards, three touchdowns with no interceptions. Despite injuring his hamstring in the third quarter, he directed the Cougars to a 45-38 win over East Carolina. He has 1,416 passing yards on the season to go along with nine touchdowns, five interceptions and a 131.82 efficiency rating.
